A Bright Family Apartment in Södermalm
This three-bedroom family apartment is located on the raised ground floor of an 1890s apartment building in the trendy Södermalm area in Stockholm. Space is often limited in these historic apartments, but in this 75 square meter home, the owners managed to create three bedrooms and an open-plan living space.
The apartment showcases period elements from the year of construction, like half-moon windows, pine linden floorboards, mirror doors, and high ceilings. These period elements are paired with a fresh white color scheme, art, and modern interiors.

The apartment has a semi open-plan living space with dedicated areas for sitting, dining, and cooking. Two large arched windows flood the living space with natural light, and this brightness is enhanced by the white color on the walls.

The beautiful pine floorboards add a warm atmosphere to the room, which is combined with a black and white color scheme in the furniture and decor. Art on the walls and books on the shelves add a personal touch. In the corner of the room, they created a home office made from industrial-style IKEA furniture.

The space between the sitting area and the kitchen can fit a large dining table, perfectly connecting the two spaces.

Original wooden doors lead to a small room behind the kitchen, which is now a children’s bedroom.

The black and white color scheme continues into the kitchen with white cabinets on two sides, topped with a black countertop. The kitchen can be accessed via the living space and the hall.

About Södermalm – Stockholm
Södermalm (or Söder in short) is an island just south of Stockholm’s Old Town (Gamla Stan). It has transformed from an impoverished area at the beginning of the 20th century into the most trendy neighborhood in Stockholm (and one of the coolest areas in the world, according to Vogue).
What to do: Södermalm is known for its cozy cafés, restaurants, and shops (including many vintage shops such as Beyond Retro and Grandpa). The island also offers beautiful views from the city. Walk up on Mariaberget or Skinnarviksberget and snap a picture of Sweden’s most beautiful city, or go for a swim at Långholmen.
Museums: Fotografiska Museum, Stockholm City Museum
You can take a guided 2-hour tour of Södermalm to fully immerse yourself in this trendy area. And if you’re interested in the brewery history, take a guided walk that includes a beer tasting at a secret location.
Where to stay: Stockholm Stadshotell, Hotel Frantz, NoFo Hotel

The small room next to the kitchen is a charming kids bedroom with the original high baseboards and pine floorboards. The white walls are paired with vibrant cobalt blue color accents.

The master bedroom is a charming room with white-painted floorboards and large windows facing the courtyard.

The third bedroom is equally bright and charming with an angled wall and large windows toward the courtyard.

There is a small, private terrace area in the courtyard. If the windows in the master bedroom are exchanged for doors, you can create a lovely outdoor terrace.

The long hall connects almost all the rooms in the apartment. The wooden floorboards are topped with a colorful runner, which is a nice color pop contrasting with the black and white color scheme of the rest of the apartment.
