A Restored 19th-Century House in Portugal with Apple Green Color Accents
Set on a gentle rise in the rural landscape of Runa, this late 19th-century house unfolds as both a restoration project and a rethinking of how a single home can be lived in.
Originally built in the 1880s and comprehensively renovated in 2022, the property now spans 448 square meters across three levels, including an attic, and has been carefully restructured into two independent living units.

Approaching the house, its elevated position becomes immediately apparent. The surrounding countryside stretches outward, with vineyard views defining the horizon. Just beyond the rear of the property, walking trails begin and weave directly into the landscape, making the outdoors feel like a natural extension of daily life here.

Inside, the renovation reveals a clear respect for the building’s origins. Original stone and wood elements have been preserved and woven into the updated interiors, creating a quiet continuity between past and present.

Pine wood floors run throughout, grounding each space with warmth, while tall ceilings and vaulted openings give the rooms an understated sense of scale.
The home is organized across two main floors, each functioning as a self-contained living space. Both levels include their own kitchens and social areas, allowing for independence without sacrificing cohesion.

Fireplaces anchor the living rooms, offering both physical warmth and a visual focal point around which daily life gathers.

The kitchens are practical and well-equipped and finished with fittings from Portuguese brands such as Ofa and Efapel, adding a layer of local craftsmanship to the modern updates.

The green kitchen in one of the residences features an exposed brick wall and a window looking out into the dining room.

All the skirting boards, doors, and shutters are painted in a light green hue, adding a fresh color accent to the interior spaces.

Bathrooms in both residences feature terracotta-colored tilework.

The kitchen in the second residence is designed with reclaimed wood, adding a warm atmosphere.

Outside, a 112-square-meter garden and swimming pool are positioned to capture the softer eastern light of the morning, while a generous terrace benefits from sun exposure throughout the day.
Here, the rhythm shifts: an outdoor kitchen and seating areas invite long, informal meals or quiet afternoons, always framed by the surrounding countryside.
