A Victorian House with a Grand Contemporary Extended Living Space
On a Queen’s Park street stands a typical Victorian house with sculptural pediments, bay windows, and classic stock brickwork that matches the historic homes on the same street. But inside, the design palette shifts to something bolder and more contemporary.
Through the front door, you enter a small hall where a short set of steps leads you down into a grand open-plan living space. The entire floor has been lowered, creating more volume, leading toward a fantastic indoor/outdoor living space at the back.

The living space features brushed plaster walls and a concrete floor, adding a contemporary, deep, and soft style to the living space.

At the back of the plan, they created a beautiful second sitting area with bi-folding Crittal-style doors that can be fully opened, extending the living space into the garden.

Doors from the kitchen and sitting areas are fully open onto a wooden deck leading into the neat garden.

The neat garden is framed by wooden seating and painted fences, creating a low-maintenance and private outdoor space.

Moving back in, you can see the volume clearly in this picture. Large skylights bring in natural light, deep into the space, while the exposed brick showcases the house’s Victorian bones.

The kitchen and dining area are located in the center of this open-plan space. It is designed in a contrasting style with dark cabinets and inky ceiling beams paired with the light-colored walls and floor.

The kitchen pairs dark cabinets and a brass island with a smooth graphite countertop and metallic breakfast stools.

Through a pair of reclaimed wooden doors, you enter a cozy snug at the front of the plan. Light pours in through the classic bay window, and the height of the window shows how much lower the floor is than usual.

The sitting room features a stunning built-in seating with green upholstery, creating space for the entire family.

Upstairs, the interior palette shifts toward more minimalistic and calmer spaces.

One of the bedrooms features built-in wardrobes and a desk. The light gray palette creates a calm atmosphere while the wooden floor adds warmth.

The family bathroom features a deep bathtub, a black-framed shower, and black fittings.

The master bedroom is located at the front of the house with a large, traditionally Victorian bay window, light walls, and a wooden floor.

The room features gray, built-in wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom.

The top floor is home to another bedroom suite designed in the same monochrome palette as the downstairs rooms.

The house is listed for rent at Domus Nova.
